|Broomall-Newtown Wins Babe Ruth World Series Championship Game|
Congrats to the "Annas boys"!
Broomall-Newtown capitalized on 11 walks, seven errors, three wild pitches and one hit batter to win the Babe Ruth 15s World Series title with a 12-3 win over Lumber River, NC Thursday night at Story Field in Longview, Wash. After being down 3-1 in the second inning, Broomall-Newtown came roaring back to take the championship.
Friends' Central's Associate Athletic Director, Phillip Annas and his son, rising sophomore Christopher Annas'17 are headed to Babe Ruth World Series Championship Game. The game will be played Thursday, August 28th at 7:00pm (PDT) in Longview, WA vs Lumber River, NC. The Annas' are members of the Broomall-Newtown Babe Ruth 15s. Chris starts at third base and Phil is the assistant coach. The Broomall-Newtown team advanced to the championship game by defeating Tri County Texas. The score of the game was 7-3. Chris Annas went 1 for 4 with a walk and a single. To take the championship, the Broomall-Newtown team will have to defeat Lumber River, NC who they lost to in the final pool play game by the score of 3-1. As coach Phil Annas gears up for the championship game, he reports "I'm hopeful that we will hit the ball better today than we did in our first game against Lumber River." Update: On Tuesday, August 26th Broomall-Newtown advanced to the semi-final game of the Babe Ruth World Series by defeating Longview (WA) by the score of 12-3. Chris Annas'17 went 2 for 5 with two singles and two runs scored. The semi-final game will be played on Wednesday at 5:00 (PDT) against Tri County (TX).
Update: On Monday, August 25th, the Broomall-Newtown team lost their final game in pool play by the score of 3-1 against Lumber River, NC. Chris Annas'17 went 1 for 3 with a single in the game. Broomall-Newtown will enter Tuesday's game as the second seed. They will take on Longview, WA at 5:00pm (PDT).
Update: On Saturday, August 23rd, Broomall-Newtown dropped their first Babe Ruth World Series game of the tournament. They lost to Woodinville, WA 7-0. In the loss, Chris Annas went 2 for 3 with a double and was awarded the Ron Tellefsen Award. This award is given to the player of the game from each team. The award is given in honor of Ron Tellefsen who was a past president of the Babe Ruth organization. Next up for Broomall-Newtown is a game on Monday, August, 25th vs Lumber River, NC.
Update: On Friday, August 22nd, Broomall-Newtown defeated Kelso, WA to advance in the Babe Ruth World Series. The final score was 4-0. Chris Annas'17 capped off a three run fourth inning with an RBI. Next up is a 2:30 (PDT) game on Saturday, August 23rd vs Woodinville, WA.
Update: On Thursday, August 21st, Broomall-Newtown won their opening game vs Waterford, CT. The final score was 5-3. Chris Annas'17 contributed a bases loaded walk, a single and scored a run in the victory. The team will take on Kelso, WA on Friday, August 22nd at 7:00pm (PDT)
Rising sophomore Christopher Annas'17 and his father Associate Athletic Director, Phillip Annas are headed to the big leagues! They are members of the Broomall-Newtown Babe Ruth 15s. Chris starts at third base. He also rotates through left field and shortstop depending on the pitching rotation. Chris has also logged some innings on the mound. Phillip is an Assistant Coach with the Broomall-Newtown Babe Ruth15s.
