The Arts at FCS

At Friends' Central, we believe that the highest expression of creativity is the belief that anything is possible. The visual and performing arts are essential to every student’s experience here, both as discrete courses and as an integral part of our core curriculum. We offer a wide variety of ways for children in all grades to express their creativity as they increase their self-confidence. A walk through the halls of the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools demonstrates the rich and deep exposure our students have to studio arts. From our music rooms you may hear the sounds of second graders improvising rhythm patterns or the Upper School chorus mastering a four-part harmony. Music classes are required for students from nursery through 10th grade. Dramatic productions are an integral part of the Lower School curriculum and an optional opportunity for Middle and Upper School students. The self-discipline and intellectual flexibility learned in the arts spills over into all aspects of our students' lives.

On Friday, March 17 at 7 pm and Sunday, March 19 at 2 pm in Shallcross Hall, Friends' Central Middle School students presented Sally Cotter and the Censored Stone, the hilarious parody of all things Harry Potter.
The KB classroom has been transformed into an enchanting, verdant, and interactive rainforest. Kindergartners partnered with their grade 5 buddies on an exciting cross-curricular project - from classroom to the art room to the Light Lab - to create a one-of-a-kind, artistic, and interactive display board, which provided the backdrop for the KB Rainforest Play, the culmination of many weeks of learning about the ecosystem and inhabitants of the rainforest.
