Philadelphia Youth Basketball Middle School Tournament
Posted 01/19/2017 12:03PM

Over Martin Luther King weekend, Friends' Central's "A" basketball teams were part of the First Annual Philadelphia Youth Basketball (PYB) tournament at Germantown Friends School. PYB is a non-profit organization being built to empower youth through the sport of basketball.

The tournament brought together 9 boys' teams and 4 girls' teams from Philadelphia area schools to compete in a two day basketball tournament. There were also 7 AAU boys' basketball teams represented. Our Friends' Central boys' team won the Schools Division by defeating Germantown Academy in triple overtime in the Championship game. Friends' Central's MS girls' team ended in a three way tie for first place.

As part of the two day event, workshops for the teams were given. The teams met two at a time to engage in dialogue and learn more about Martin Luther King and his impact on society.
