The Friends’ Central squash programs play in the Mid-Atlantic Squash Association, a collection of private schools from around the region. Since evolving from a club team to a varsity squad several years ago, the Phoenix squash teams have been under the coaching eye of Shane Coleman at the Cynwyd Club. An Australian native, Coleman first arrived at Cynwyd in 2004, and coached the combined Harriton/Lower Merion team for the 15 years that followed, taking HLM Squash from a co-ed team to separate varsity programs. Though it’s one of the school’s newest varsity programs, the future already looks bright for the Phoenix.
