Message from the LS Principal

Dear Lower School Families,

The Annual Lower School Halloween Parade will take place at 9:00 am on Tuesday, October 31. Pre-K through grade 5 students will begin in the gym and parade around both car loops two times. Families are invited to line the car loop to join in the fun. You are also welcome to stop by the refreshment table for coffee and an FCS-baked treat. Alternatively, we will be live-streaming the event so that you can watch from your home or office.

We ask that you consider the following guidelines in helping your child(ren) to decide on a Halloween costume that will honor our Quaker values and help to promote a fun and festive community event.

Be creative and keep the costume simple.
Please make sure your child's costume upholds the Quaker testimony of peace and does not include weapons or glorify fighting.
Use this as a moment to teach appreciation as opposed to appropriation of other cultures. Appropriation is when a culture becomes over-generalized or stereotyped to represent fashion or humor.
It is totally understandable that an older child might want to wear a scary costume; please save it for the evening and help your child understand how such a costume might frighten younger children.
Please ensure that costumes do not serve to exclude or mock different opinions and beliefs. We ask that costumes show support for, rather than come out against, specific political parties, religions, etc.

If your family does not celebrate Halloween, please let us know; we are happy to coordinate an alternative plan.
