Parents are an integral part of Friends’ Central School, and parent volunteerism strengthens and builds our community. It is also a wonderful and fun way to get to know other parents in your division.

Please consider participating in one of the many volunteer opportunities available to you during the school year. Select all of those that appeal to you, and a school or Home and School Association (HSA) representative will contact you with further details. Volunteer Opportunities

Pre-Prom Receptions Grade 9 and Grade 10 Parents, May 5

The Junior & Senior Pre-Prom Receptions provide a festive time and place for the juniors and seniors to gather together with their families to take pictures before they leave for the prom. The Grade 9 and 10 Parent Representatives with the assistance of the Home & School office coordinate the event.

Grade 9 parent volunteers are needed to help decorate, set-up and clean up for the Junior Pre-Prom Reception that is held at the Lower School campus.

Grade 10 parent volunteers are needed to help decorate, set-up and clean up at the Senior Pre-Prom Reception held on the City Avenue campus.

Faculty Appreciation Tea Grade 11 parents, May 10

Held in May during a faculty meeting, the Grade 11 Parent Representatives coordinate a Faculty Appreciation event. Parent volunteers provide food and assist with set-up and clean up as we say thanks to our wonderful Faculty.

Home and School Grade Representatives play a vital role welcoming new families, planning the parent gathering for the class, and helping with other HSA events.

Parents for Diversity

The Parents for Diversity Group is a school-wide parent group where discussion about larger issues around diversity can take place. It is a place where all voices can be heard and where parents can have structured discussions with members of the FCS staff, faculty, and administration. How would you like to participate?

Other Ways To Volunteer

Substitute Nurses - Substitute Nurses are needed in the Upper School/Middle School health office. This opportunity is for Registered Nurses.

Blackburn Library - Parent volunteers assist in a variety of jobs, such as shelving and processing books. Any amount of time you can give is appreciated but a regular schedule is requested.

Drama Department Costume Collection -The Drama Department’s theatrical costume collection requires volunteer support throughout the year. We need parent volunteers to take inventory and organize costume donations. Help is also needed to measuring, sewing and altering costumes. Choose your own hours!

Annual Giving

The Friends' Central Fund is the school's top fund-raising priority and receives strong support from parents each year. Volunteering for the Annual Fund is a great way to give back to the community.

Class Agent - Parents are needed from each class to support the Annual Giving Campaign by sending donation letters, participating in phone-a-thons and following up with parents to increase class participation. This job is done mostly at your convenience.

Phone-A-Thon for Annual Giving - Phonathons are held several times a year to raise money for Friends’ Central. Help make calls at one or all of them.
