Come to hear some updates about next year on Wednesday, May 31, from 8-9 am.

Task Force Programming and Update

This past Wednesday, we wrapped up our recommended Task Force programming with screenings of Wrestling Jerusalem and facilitated conversations. Upper School students watched the film together and then worked with facilitator Oren Kroll-Zeldin, grouped by grade, throughout the day.

In these sessions, students reviewed the training they received last week when the Dialogue Institute offered them language to frame a positive, constructive approach to difficult conversations. As students responded to the film, they were reminded of this language and asked to use it in their conversations about Wrestling Jerusalem.

These two programs, the Dialogue Institute and Wrestling Jerusalem, form the basis for a useful structure our community can use moving forward - a structure that transcends any one issue or topic.

As we look forward to the last few weeks of school, it is also important for you to know that Sa'ed Atshan has declined our invitation to speak at Friends' Central. We are disappointed that he will not be participating in this important dialogue but respect his choice to decline the invitation.

Families - newly enrolled and current - gathered last night at the Lower School for an Ice Cream Social.

Middle School News

Message from Alexa Quinn

Please join me in thanking Hank Adamczyk for his two years of service as a Middle School teacher. Hank is leaving Friends' Central at the end of this year to become a math teacher at Holy Child School at Rosemont. Hank has taught Social Studies and Shop and has worked tirelessly in support of the Makerspace here at FCS. He has also been active in all aspects of the Middle School program (drama, athletics, service, clubs, and more) and was incredibly helpful to us when we had two situations in which teachers had to be absent from school for extended periods of time. Hank is a true Renaissance man, a committed educator, and a wonderful colleague. Read Alexa's full message about Hank, as well as other important info, here.

Grade 6 Workshop with Al Vernacchio

During Community Block on Tuesday, May 23, Al Vernacchio will be holding a workshop for the entire sixth grade entitled "Puberty: Beyond the Body." This workshop was originally scheduled for May 9. Many lessons on puberty focus on the changes that happen to bodies but often neglect the important emotional and social changes that puberty brings. This interactive session will help sixth graders identify, explain, and normalize some of those important social and emotional changes.

Rising Eighth Grade Families: Please save the dates for the eighth grade's overnight trip to Washington, D.C. We will leave FCS early Sunday, Sept. 24 and return late on Monday, Sept. 25. Because this trip overlaps with a weekend, we wanted you to know the dates early for planning and scheduling. Thriving Farm-to-Table Program at Friends' Central's Lower School
Now more than ever, parents are conscious of words like "organic," "healthy," "sustainable," or "gluten-free" when it comes to their child's lunches. It can be difficult, not to mention costly, to provide healthy, farm-fresh, and also tasty lunches for children on a daily basis. At Friends' Central School, the guesswork has been taken out of school lunches, with an exciting new school lunch program that begins in the Lower School organic garden. Read the full article.
