Message from Kelly PIerre
Joy is the theme for Meeting for Worship this month. On Tuesday, Regina Ziffer shared from the facing bench with third and fourth graders (fifth graders were having a meeting for business, prepping for their camping trip). She encouraged the children to take ownership over finding joy in their life. Click here to read Kelly's full message about joy, Quakerism, and other Lower School news.

Middle School News

Message from Alexa Quinn

Today we had our final lockdown drill of the year in Middle School. Our students and teachers were calm and prepared and followed procedures perfectly. We piloted a new piece of technology that allows us to "check in" students and teachers more easily, and we were very pleased with the results. As always, if you have any questions or concerns related to campus safety, please do not hesitate to contact me or Tom McDaniel, Director of Facilities and Campus Safety.

We are looking forward to the many special culminating activities in these final two weeks of school. In the meantime, have a safe and joyful holiday weekend.

Current Grade 8 Families: Information about Eighth Grade Events

You should have received an email from Alexa with details on the upcoming culminating events for the eighth grade. If you missed it, you can read the letter and find all of the information here.

Phoenix Game Day: June 9

Phoenix Game Day, Middle School field day, is coming up on Thursday, June 9. Teachers and students will be participating in special events and activities all day. You may have heard your child speak of this as "Color Day," since the students are divided into red, blue, yellow, and green teams. Please make sure your child dresses for the weather and for athletic activities (including athletic clothes, sneakers, layers if it is chilly, sunscreen, hats, etc.).

Yearbooks Are Coming!

Students will receive their yearbooks on the afternoon of Phoenix Game Day. All students will receive a yearbook free of charge. We ask all students to write their names in their yearbooks since we do not have extra copies. We hope students will enjoy looking through and signing the yearbooks together! Many thanks to Becky Guenther and the Yearbook staff for their work to create this special memento of the year.

Rising Grade 7 & 8 Parents: Save the Dates!

Rising Seventh Grade Families: Please save the dates for the seventh grade's overnight trip to the Echo Hill Outdoor School from Sept. 26 through 29. Yom Kippur begins at sundown on the September 29, so we will be arriving back to campus by 3 pm to allow for families observing the holiday to pick up their children and leave for services or family gatherings. You will receive more information on the trip itself in the coming months, but please let us know if you have any questions at this time.

Rising Eighth Grade Families: Please save the dates for the eighth grade's overnight trip to Washington, D.C. We will leave FCS early Sunday, Sept. 24 and return late on Monday, Sept. 25. Because this trip overlaps with a weekend, we wanted you to know the dates early for planning and scheduling. You will receive more information on the trip itself when school begins in September, but please let us know if you have any questions at this time.

Thriving Farm-to-Table Program at Friends' Central's Lower School
Now more than ever, parents are conscious of words like "organic," "healthy," "sustainable," or "gluten-free" when it comes to their child's lunches. At Friends' Central School, the guesswork has been taken out of school lunches, with an exciting new school lunch program that begins in the Lower School organic garden. Read the full article.
