Dear Alumni/ae,

This fall has been busy at Friends' Central, with Service Days, the Lower School Pumpkin Fair, and Alumni/ae Gatherings. We also enjoyed seeing alumni/ae at our Philadelphia event and at a local screening of the documentary After Auschwitz by Jon Kean '85.

On October 18, Alumni/ae Board members Jeffrey Brody '98, Lauren Collier '98, Olivia Gillison '10, and Josh Wasserman '02 were on campus during Senior Day sharing career tips in their workshops with the Class of 2018. Seniors have already reported using their new skills - one student recently used the tips on handshakes during a college interview while another networked to secure a Senior Project at an alumna's branding consultancy. Way to go!

We look forward to seeing many more alumni/ae at our Brooklyn Alumni/ae Event on December 7! I wish all of you a happy Thanksgiving! Here's to enjoying the company of good friends and family.

Sincerely,

Linda Waxman Wasserman '75

Thank Teachers and Share Your Stories

November 28, 2017

We want to hear alumni/ae stories of teachers who impacted you! This year, our community is celebrating Giving Tuesday by giving back and giving thanks to the wonderful teachers at Friends' Central. To participate you can:

  • Give back here in honor of FCS teachers.
  • Give thanks here by sharing a story of a teacher who impacted you and why you're thankful. Or share why FCS teachers are special.

Our social media will be filled with your stories in the coming weeks. We'll also share stories you post on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter if you tag us and use one of these hashtags: #120ThankYous #GiveBackGiveThanks #GivingTuesday. Stay tuned for more!

Dig in the Archives with Jim Davis

Last week, Friends' Central launched its new website and with it new alumni/ae pages and a new page dedicated to exploring school history. With the addition of Dig in the Archives with Jim Davis to our website, we hope to more widely share stories from the School's history. Through the years, the Archives have been lovingly maintained and preserved treasured relics and documents from all four campuses of Friends' Central School's history. Today, the Archives are led by Archivist and Development Associate Jim Davis, who served as a member and chair of the Arts Department at Friends' Central for 40 years.

Alumni/ae Reconnect in Philadelphia

Local alumni/ae and teachers enjoyed catching up at the Philadelphia Alumni/ae Fall Event on October 19. Thank you to everyone who attended! It was wonderful to share stories and reconnect with old friends! You can check out photos from the event here. Interested in becoming involved with alumni/ae events? A Night Out in the Classroom

November 20 · 7-8:30pm · City Ave Campus

Inside FCS: A Night Out in the Classroom is an evening of learning among friends and your chance to be a Friends' Central student all over again! The evening will feature a short keynote talk by Mariama Richards, Assistant Head of School for Academic Program, and will be followed by a unique 45-minute class taught by current FCS teachers. Refreshments and an opportunity to catch up with old friends and make some new ones will follow classes. Check your email in the next week for more information and to register. We look forward to seeing you back in the classroom!

Remembering Jean Taranta

It is with sadness that we share that Jean Taranta, much beloved former Friends' Central Librarian, passed away peacefully on October 4 at the age of 95, surrounded by her family. Jean served Friends' Central School for 37 years, first as Lower School teacher and then as head librarian of the Lower School. She was known in our community for her generosity, tireless work ethic, creative spirit and compassion for others.

Please join us in holding Jean and her family in the Light. A memorial service celebrating Jean's life will be held at Unitarian Universalist Church of Delaware County (145 W Rose Tree Rd, Media, PA) on Saturday, December 2 at 11 am. We are collecting memories of Jean to share with the community. If you have a memory of Jean you'd like to share, please send it to communications@friendscentral.org.

Add Your Voice - Long Range Planning Survey

Last spring, Friends' Central launched a long range planning process that will unfold over the course of this school year. We hope you will participate through an alumni/ae survey and share your perspectives on the School, your personal experiences, and what you see as the most important priorities going forward. Your input is vital for shaping the direction of our School. Click here to take the survey.
