Dear Alumni/ae,

Underdogs no more! The Philadelphia Eagles clinched their first Super Bowl win in franchise history, and celebrations took place across the region in true Philly fashion. I hope you felt your hometown's enthusiasm with the victory! There was plenty of Eagles spirit in our community over recent weeks, which you can see in this viral video of cheering Pre-K students and in these photos of alums at last week's Eagles parade.

Yesterday, our community Showed Their Love for FCS by sharing their photos and messages of love for their school across our social media platforms. Click here to see some fun pictures from the day.

I ask you to continue showing support for your alma mater during our first Day of Giving: One Day, One Gift, One FCS on March 8, 2018. Alumni/ae like you have sustained our school for generations, touching the student experience in every classroom. Your support is vital to our continued success, and I am grateful for our many loyal supporters. Watch for a postcard in the mail and tune into our social media to learn more about March 8!

Andrew Scharff '95 Mentors Students in Comedy

While gearing up for their upcoming performances of Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors, Upper School students recently got a lesson in comedy from Andrew Scharff '95. Terry Guerin, Drama and English teacher, reflected: "We are so delighted to have Andrew Scharff '95 to help us with our clowning while he is on break from his 'Clowning the World' service project. His many years of experience with Barnum and Bailey are being put to good use with our drama students in Comedy of Errors." You can see a preview of the musical here or catch one of the shows in person on March 2 or 3!

Singing Valentines and More

A number of FCS traditions have grown out of the spirit of Valentine's Day. For nearly 20 years, students and teachers have enjoyed sending friends singing valentines performed by student choral groups on campus. This year's available songs ranged from Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up to Count On Me by Bruno Mars. Another popular event is the Annual Laurie Fox Scholarship Bake Sale, now in its 7th year, honoring the memory of Upper School Secretary Laurie Fox whose scholarship fund supports student access to programs and activities like Prom tickets, art supplies, and field trips. Our FCS family also shared their love for their school on social media with photos that you can see here.

Class of 1960 Honors David Kirk

"He always stressed playing by the rules and being concerned for the welfare of the group. Dave taught us to win with grace in sports and in life— to win fairly and with good sportsmanship." -Bruce Woodruff '60

Dave Kirk was a legendary teacher, coach, and administrator at Friends' Central, who influenced the lives of many students in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s.

Two alums from the Class of 1960, Rich Ulmer and Bruce Woodruff, have worked with their classmates and friends to start an endowment fund honoring Dave Kirk's memory. The David Kirk Memorial Fund for Student Support will help students with financial need beyond tuition (for instance, helping with the cost of a team trip or academic tutoring).
