Lower School News

Message from Kelly Bird Pierre

I look forward to seeing many of you at Spring Fling tonight! Congratulations to the illustrious 5th grade cast for their performance of a play on the Quaker testimony of Peace this morning. Middle School Drama Program, watch out! They were naturals - expressive, animated, witty - onstage, and organized, efficient, and dependable off stage! Teacher Peggy, our 5th Grade Drama Coach, brought out the absolute best in each and every student. They made us cry we laughed so hard. It was a performance that will not be forgotten. Thank you, Teacher Peggy and the 5th grade teachers, for all of your hard work.

What a treat it has been to have so many of our FCS Upper School students volunteering in the Lower School classrooms. They are here during May as part of either their Senior Project or Upper School service days. Many of them were once students in the Lower School themselves. They have won over the hearts of our students in a very short time!

I am writing to share some updates about faculty retirements, role changes, and additions to the Lower School faculty. Click here to read Kelly's full message.

Upper School News

Message from the Upper School Office

Spring is finally here (or is it summer?) and 'tis the season of Prom, happening tomorrow at the National Museum of American Jewish History in Center City. Many thanks to Heather Tomes and the Prom Committee for its careful planning and tireless fundraising to help keep down the cost of this capstone celebration. Both campuses will host Pre-Prom photo opps for friends and family starting at 6:30 pm: 11th graders on the LS campus; 12th graders at City Ave. One reason to be grateful for our late spring is that both campuses are still in full flower!

Wednesday's Meeting for Worship was a thought-provoking, meaningful portal to the service learning days of Thursday and Friday, spent doing service throughout Philadelphia. Meeting opened with the Chorus reprising the medieval chant "Ubi Caritas" from the spring concert. The text, "where love and charity are, there is God," served as the springboard for reflections about the deep learning that often accompanies our service experiences. Click here to read the entire Upper School message.
