FCS Senior Goalkeeper Sophia Bozzone '26 Completes Record-Breaking Varsity Career

Friends’ Central senior goalkeeper and co-captain Sophia Bozzone has officially capped off a remarkable Varsity field hockey career. Sophia ends her four-year run with an extraordinary 809 career saves; a total that, according to available School records, makes her the top goalkeeper in FCS field hockey history.

Sophia’s FCS field hockey career has been marked by both standout performances and significant recognition at the local and national levels. This fall, she was named to the NFHCA Player Watchlist, highlighting her as one of the top high school players to watch in the region. For the second consecutive year, she was named Defensive Player of the Month by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).

Her high-level play also earned her MaxPreps Player of the Game distinctions in matchups against league rivals ANC and Westtown, where she delivered exceptional performances against some of the toughest offenses in the Friends Schools League.

A consistent presence in league honors, Sophia was selected to the All-Friends Schools League First Team for three straight years. Even more impressively, in her first-ever season as a goalkeeper – a role she stepped into for the team – she secured All-FSL Honorable Mention, offering an early glimpse of her future as an elite keeper.

Beyond the statistics and accolades, Sophia’s leadership, poise, and competitive spirit have left a lasting mark on the FCS field hockey program. Her growth from a first-time goalkeeper to one of the most celebrated players in School history stands as a testament to her dedication and love for the sport.

Looking ahead, Sophia plans to continue her field hockey career at Catholic University next fall, where the Cardinals will gain not just a skilled goalkeeper, but an athlete with proven heart, grit, and a record-setting legacy.
